Coverage

Quarried currently lists 285 materials from 92 public producers. Listings include natural expressions, selections and supplier ranges; they are not a count of distinct deposits.

Coverage is growing. No listed stones does not mean a state has no quarries. Producers do not pay to be listed, and inclusion does not require membership in an industry organization.

How we research a stone

Producer documentation, industry directories, technical reports and quarry records are compared to establish a material’s name, American origin and producer relationship. The source links and review dates are retained so readers can trace those findings.

Material identity, quarry relationship, exact location, operating status and photograph permission are assessed separately. A verified material may be listed while its precise quarry location is still under review. Missing facts are left unfilled.

What the evidence can tell you

A source-check date records a review of available information, not a quarry inspection or confirmation of stock. Active and Intermittent are regulatory classifications, not promises of present production or delivery dates. A producer relationship does not by itself establish an exact quarry location.

Materials remain listed when an associated MSHA record is marked Abandoned. That status is highlighted with the record date, and any uncertainty in the material-to-permit link is identified. Current marketing does not override MSHA status; current stock and the supplying quarry must be confirmed separately.

Photograph sources, credits and permission records are retained with the research. Representative photographs do not define the full range of a current order. Confirm origin, range, finish, dimensions and suitability with the producer before specifying, and request current physical samples.

Sources and research records

The research draws on producer documentation, the Natural Stone Institute catalogue and an MSHA snapshot dated 18 September 2026. Individual records carry their own source-check dates. NSI catalogue coverage does not imply membership.

The expandable lists below include public listings and records retained for research or historical context. Their totals can be larger than the public catalogue because an archived record is not necessarily a current source of supply.
