Browse stone, then trace the source

The public catalogue lists 285 materials from 92 producers. The research archive retains 93 producer profiles, including withdrawn listings, so earlier evidence and relationships remain traceable. These archive profiles are not additional public producers or independently audited ownership structures.

Membership and a minimum employee count are not required for inclusion. Coverage is incomplete nationally. Verified materials may appear while a suitable photograph or exact quarry location is still being researched; those questions are assessed independently. Supplier research with unresolved American origin stays outside the catalogue.

Material coverage

The archive contains 289 material source records: 174 from the Natural Stone Institute catalogue and 115 added from producer documentation. 4 source records are outside the public material catalogue. 31 of the 93 producer research profiles have an NSI catalogue match. These are source-coverage figures, not membership counts.

Listings include named color ranges, selections and finishes; the total is not a count of distinct deposits. A producer may be listed before all its materials are documented. A link to a producer’s quarry records does not claim that every material comes from a particular permit. Materials documented from more than one state appear under each stated origin.

Employment and operating status

In MSHA’s Mine Information Form instructions, Active describes a mine normally operating full time; short, unexpected shutdowns do not necessarily change it. Intermittent describes operations expected to run during part of the year, often depending on demand or season. These are regulatory classifications, not promises of available blocks or a delivery date.

MSHA’s NO_EMPLOYEES field comes from the Mine Information Form. The snapshot is dated 18 Sept 2026; it does not give this field a reporting-period date. These are mine-record figures, not current company headcounts or proof of production.

The reported-workforce filter can limit research results to records reporting more than five workers. It does not change operating status or determine whether a producer belongs in Quarried. Portable operations and facilities remain labelled.

Quarry research opens with operations linked to material records; the full MSHA list is also available. Supply formats, uses and fabrication partners are recorded only where sources support them, not inferred from stone type.

Historical permits and source checks

Permit history preserves abandoned records, former names and conflicting evidence. Suggested replacement permits remain research leads until succession is confirmed. A producer may still market stone from stock or another operation. Withdrawn listings retain their dated review notes and original regulatory records.

A source-check date records a website or document review, not an inspection or confirmation of stock or production capacity. Producer documentation and regulatory status are shown separately. A website that could not be verified does not cause a producer to disappear.

Origins, colors and filters

Material origins follow documented source locations, not sales offices. Selecting multiple states or colors finds any of those choices; different kinds of filters combine. Producer color and stone type filters must match a documented range in the selected state. Imported product lines are not intentionally included.

Photographs

Photo source links, credits and permission decisions are retained with each image’s research record. Finishes, product forms and historical references are identified where known. Photographer and license credits are retained where provided; a credit alone is not a reuse license. Permission to display an image on Quarried does not grant permission for other uses.

Material identity and photo permission are separate questions. Photographs represent the material’s character, not the complete range of a current order. Always request current physical samples.

Curator disclosure

Quarried’s curator operates Sylacauga Marble Quarry and has an ownership interest in it.
